Verdict
If you think for a while, you would see that ATI must have sold the most number of ATI HD5770’s than any other card in the ATI 5000 series because this card is just about found anywhere in the world and is a favourite among the mid level gamers with its wide variety of choices from reference to factory modified versions. In terms of performance it is near to par with the Nvidia gtx
260 and Ati 4890 and even beats them when overclocked and gives a run for their money. It is obvious that ATI had aimed this card towards the overclocking community as it overclocks as hell. The reference card is noisy when the fan is at full 100%.But some of the cards like Powercolor 5770 PCS+ Vortex, Sapphire 5770 VaporX and the MSI R5770 HAWK are simply mind-blowing when compared to what you get for the price. All of them use special cooling solutions. The sapphire VaporX card comes factory oveclocked by 25mhz core and uses Vapor chamber cooling, solid state capacitors and black diamond chokes to keep it fast and cool when overclocked. Both the Powercolor PCS+ vortex and the Sapphire vaporx can be Quad- crossfired if your motherboard supports it.The MSI R5770 Hawk uses Twin frozr II cooling solution and military class components which are very reliable and stable even when the voltage is increased.
Its full throttle in any modern game up to a resolution of 1920x1200, however the game settings have to be lowered with resolutions like 2560x1600 or higher to achieve satisfactory gameplay. The ATI 5770 hovers around 70 degrees under full load and idles at 20watts under idle conditions with a maximum board power of 108 watts. If you are in the market to get a mid range gaming card then this is the perfect one to consider, however there is some stiff competition from the green camp with their GTX 460 outperforming the 5770 in just about everything. But said that the GTX 460 costs about $40-$50 more than the ATI 5770( $160).260 and Ati 4890 and even beats them when overclocked and gives a run for their money. Put together with the right kind of CPU, Ram and MOBO you can have a wonderful mid-range gaming pc for $1000. You surely are getting more performance than what you are paying for the ATI 5770 card. It is definitely a wolf in a sheep’s clothing.
