The Planets Are Aligned: Facebook’s Spartan And iPad Projects Set To Launch Early Next Week

Earlier tonight, Alexia found and posted some screenshots of something that sure looked a lot like the mythical "Project Spartan". Shortly thereafter, Facebook took down the page in question. And for good reason. That was Project Spartan, we've now confirmed.Whoops.Well, to be fair, I've heard numerous times that they don't actually call it that internally. That may be a name that external developers use. No matter — we all know what I mean. It's the HTML5-based mobile platform that Facebook has been building in secret for months. And now it's done. In fact, it has been done for a while. From what I hear, it has been waiting on one thing...]]>

Lnx2Mac Releases new RTL81xx Beta

type="html">

After several months of development (and regrettable delays due to work obligations and health issues), 203 packaged builds, 71 Alpha testers, and 4 test iterations, a new beta version of the Realtek RTL81xx driver is finally ready to be released.

The Functional/Visible Changes are:
  • Adds support for newer RTL8111E, RTL8111E-VL, and RTL8111F chips (as found on many SandyBridge motherboards),
  • Full support for WakeOnLAN,
  • Full support for WakeOnDemand,
  • Slight performance improvements

But the really exciting changes happened under the hood:
  • Massive code refactoring (almost a full rewrite),
  • Merged code with r8168 Linux driver v024,
  • Partial Linux emulation layer

You might be asking why those changes are so exciting...
Well, a lot of effort has been invested to make the source more similar to the Linux Realtek driver.

The purpose of this is to allow to track changes in the Linux driver more easily, thus shortening the time needed to support new chips.

Additionally, with this, I'll be able to implement new features much more quickly.

The focus of this release was to provide a stable solution for RTL811x chips on Snow Leopard and Lion, adding support for chips found on many SandyBridge boards, and fixing some bugs of v0.0.67.

I want to take this opportunity to thank the 71 Alpha testers that put this version v0.0.90 through its paces, in several iterations, and on very different configurations for the last 3 months.

So, you might ask: Should I install this ?
Short answer: Definitely !

For more details, head on to the RealtekRTL81xx OSX Driver page.

Thanks,
Lnx2Mac

Arctic Silver Ceramique Premium High Density Thermal Compound 22g (Personal Computers)
By Arctic Silver

Product Images

Review & Description

The high-density, ceramic-based thermal compound is specifically designed for modern high-power CPUs and high-performance heatsinks or water-cooling solutions. The Evolution of Cool! Ceramique uses a high-density layered composite of five unique shapes of thermally conductive aluminum oxide, boron nitride and zinc oxide sub-micron particles to maximize particle-to-particle contact area and thermal transfer. This exclusive combination provides performance exceeding most metal-based compounds.Ceramique does not contain any silicone. The suspension fluid is a proprietary mixture of advanced polysynthetic oils that provide superior performance and long-term stability. During the system's initial use, the heat from the CPU lowers the viscosity of the compound to enhance the filling of the microscopic valleys and ensure a minimum bond line between the heatsink and the CPU core. Then the compound thickens slightly over the next 100 to 300 hours of use to its final consistency designed for long-term stability.Ceramique is engineered to not separate, run, migrate, or bleed. It does not contain any metal or other electrically conductive materials. It is a pure electrical insulator, neither electrically conductive nor capacitive. Ceramique can easily be cleaned from CPUs and heatsinks with isopropyl alcohol. The 22-gram Ceramique is one of the first products available in a proprietary thermal compound syringe. The new syringe is more compact, easier to handle and dispenses a higher percentage of its content than standard industrial or medical syringes. The amount of compound remaining in the syringe is easy to determine, as the rear of the plunger is perfectly flush with the flange when the syringe is empty. Read more

Review & Description

Heat is a major issue in todays computers and thermal grease helps the heat dissipation from a CPU to a heatsink. Thermal grease needs to be applied in thin layers to increase heat transmission - the idea is to fill only the air gaps with the paste and nothing more. This thermal grease is made up of silicone compounds and features a thermal resistance of 0.05C/W. Read more
