It has been a rough month for Verizon’s network to say the least. Verizon Wireless users are once again suffering from a widespread 4G LTE and 3G EV-DO data outage. The outage is the third one of the month and only seems to be affecting users with 4G LTE devices. Things have been a bit more rocky since its 4G LTE network started taking off. Today, Big Red is having its third nationwide data outage in the month of December. Customers across the U.S. are reporting no 4G, and often no 3G data either. A recording on Verizon’s support line reveals that the company is aware of the issue and working to fix it, but no indication was given as far as when service might be restored. We have received reports stating that service is out across the country, with confirmed outages in parts of New York, New Jersey, North Carolina and other regions.
This is not the first time Verizon’s had problems with their data network this month. Prior to the launch of the Galaxy Nexus superphone, the LTE network was experiencing some problems that were quickly remedied. Hopefully Verizon will be able to fix their network quickly. We’ve reached out to Verizon for an update, but have not heard back from Verizon as of press time.
Is everyone out there on Verizon having connectivity issues this morning? Sound off below. Or, if you need some entertainment this morning, be sure to check out the VZW Support twitter feed, which is updating very quickly this morning.
Update 9:29am: Some users out there are reporting that LTE is coming back online for them. Still no data connectivity on my Galaxy Nexus here in Minneapolis, on either 3G or 4G.
Update 10:51am: I have data… sort of. 3G appears to be back, and it appears 4G LTE is back online for many (though still not here in Minneapolis).
Update 11:00am: Verizon has issued the following statement. “Verizon Wireless 4G LTE service is returning to normal this morning after company engineers worked to resolve an issue with the 4G network during the early morning hours today. Throughout this time, 4G LTE customers were able to make voice calls and send and receive text messages. The 3G data network operated normally.”
Update 11:20AM: 3G is back here in Portland. 4G still appears to be down. Anyone else seeing changes?
Update 11:21AM: Scratch that. Toggled LTE back on and now I no longer have 3G either. It’s almost like devices are taking forever to reconnect to the network. If you see 3G pop back up, do not toggle LTE on or off or you may lose connection again.
Update 1:16PM: According to @CNBC, Verizon is investigating the issue. I would have hoped they had started investigating hours ago when it first went down.
Update 2:09PM: According to our Twitter timeline, a number of you are seeing your coverage return. Still out in Portland though.
Update 9:32PM: 4G has returned here in Portland almost 12 hours after it went down. Has your data come back yet?
3G data operated normally? Tell that to my Galaxy Nexus, which had no LTE OR 3G connection from 7am to just now.
